Next edition: Reflets du cinéma hispanique, from 13 to 21 March 2026 in Mayenne
Every year since 1997, Atmosphères 53 has organised Les Reflets du Cinéma, which attracts over 25,000 spectators over 10 days. This department-wide festival presents a varied programme of short and feature-length films, reflecting the current cinematography of a particular country or region, in the region's 10 cinemas and aimed at all audiences.
The festival offers over 50 films of all genres, accessible to all without compromising on quality. It also offers conferences, exhibitions, shows, workshops and professional round tables on cinema. Each year, around twenty guests, including directors, actors, technicians, journalists, academics and distributors, come to meet and debate with the public in Mayenne.
Atmosphères 53 is keen to offer audiences the chance to discover not only the cinematography but also the culture of the countries chosen, and is also developing partnerships with a number of cultural and social structures in the department and elsewhere, to highlight other art forms and build bridges between the arts.
This event is organised in partnership with the department's cinema exhibitors, the CNC, the DRAC, the Département, Mayenne Communauté, the Ville de Laval, Mayenne Communauté and the Communauté de communes du Pays de Château-Gontier and other local authorities, as well as numerous partners from the voluntary and educational sectors, businesses and the media.
On the programme:
- 8.30pm screening of "Les Cavaliers des terres sauvages" ("The Riders of the Wild Lands")
In the heart of the Argentinian mountains lives a small community of gauchos, families of horsemen deeply attached to nature and perpetuating their traditions. While the older generations share their wisdom, rites and culture, their descendants are trying to preserve their identity in a rapidly changing world.
Somewhere between a documentary and a western, and with sumptuous black and white photography, the film takes us on a journey into the daily lives of Argentina's gauchos. We are transported to the heart of a people proud of their culture and their roots. How delightful! - Atmosphères 53
