For the art centre, Stéphane Lavoué is presenting a series of photographs taken in the unusual village of Pontmain, following an immersion in the year 2026.
"Stéphane Lavoué admits that he needs time to acclimatise to a place. To see more than what meets the eye. He strives to occupy this time by talking to the men and women he meets. He asks them questions, listens, remains relatively silent. Then his eyes gradually become accustomed to a form of darkness. During this approach phase, he refrains from working, or as little as possible, because he knows he is suffering from photographer's impatience syndrome. If he starts capturing images, he won't have the virginity to start again. So he holds back. And when his pupils are ready for battle, he shoots the material. - Mathieu Simonet
These encounters give rise to powerful portraits, where chiaroscuro reveals more than just a face, and also tells a story of sensitivity. His series, punctuated by more documentary photos - landscapes, symbolic objects, scenes taken on the spot - weave a palpable narrative, with the viewer constructing the scenario.
