Find out how historical research can support an extraordinary restoration project at the Château de la Villaudray in Beaulieu-sur-Oudon.
Since 2018, restoration work has been underway to save the Château de la Villaudray. The entire site, located in the commune of Beaulieu-sur-Oudon, has turned out to be an architectural palimpsest and a historical jigsaw puzzle. The ruins of the buildings offer great potential, and in order to guide this rescue, the choice was made to solve the enigma of the site's origins. To do this, we have drawn on genealogical, historical, architectural, topological, toponymic and archaeological sources. This cross-disciplinary use of sources now makes it possible to present historical hypotheses that still need to be confirmed, but which contribute to the restoration decisions taken to preserve the soul of the site.
