Thursdays at the Eva Prouteau contemporary art centre
Political stones, poetic stones, sacred stones: this talk looks at the place of stone in the history of art, and takes a free stroll through a host of mysterious mineral stories.
Our relationship with stone is so ancient and intimate that we have named the beginnings of human history the "Stone Age". From prehistoric times to the present day, stones have always inspired artists, from their usefulness to their curiosity and fascination. Starting with the inspirational figure of Roger Caillois, who theorised the idea of the image stone, the infinite projections of images on stone are recounted here, between wonder and awareness of the vertigo of geological time.
