Richard GALLIANO is the greatest accordionist of recent decades, an extraordinary artist, a poet of the instrument, whose impressive versatility enables him to tackle Argentine tango and Mozart, jazz and Bach, Michel LEGRAND and Vivaldi with equal ease.
In 2025, Richard GALLIANO brings us the reissue of his legendary album Viaggio, originally released in 1993 by Dreyfus Jazz. A timeless musical voyage, imbued with poetry and emotion, "New Viaggio or new journey": these words resonate like a distant echo, an invitation to go back in time, to immerse oneself once again in the unique atmosphere of this legendary album. Who hasn't dreamt of travelling through time, reliving precious moments? With the reissue of Viaggio, this dream becomes reality.
"When I rediscovered the recordings of the studio sessions, I felt a deep emotion, a mixture of joy and nostalgia. The presence of Pierre MICHELOT and Charles BELLONZI, those exceptional musicians who have left us, is palpable. Pierre, Miles Davis's double bass player (Ascenseur pour l'échafaud) and Charles, 'Lolo', Nougaro's drummer (Tu verras) with his dazzling sensitivity, formed a rhythm section of rare elegance. Finally, last but not least, Biréli LAGRÈNE, virtuoso guitarist and long-time friend, always with us, brought an astonishing magic to the ensemble.
Thanks to the perspicacity of Rémi BOURCEREAU, an outstanding sound engineer, we found previously unreleased versions of my compositions. Alternative takes, all different, which bear witness to the creative work and alchemy that took place in the studio at the time. It's a real 'work in progress' that we invite you to (re)discover.
I'm delighted to be able to share with you this new version of Viaggio, enhanced by recent discoveries. I'm also delighted to be continuing this musical journey with new companions: Adrien MOIGNARD on guitar and Philippe AERTS on double bass. Their talent and sensitivity bring a new dimension to these compositions.
I'm sure that Francis DREYFUS and Yves CHAMBERLAND, the late producers of this album, would have supported this initiative. I hope that you, the listeners, will feel the same enthusiasm as we do when you hear this rebirth of New Musette.
The concerts in Meslay-du-Maine will take place at the Salle Socioculturelle,
Opening acts will be jazz workshops from local music schools,
A record fair will be held on Thursday 14 May from 2pm to 6pm in the grounds of Meslay-du-Maine town hall,
All our concerts are free for our audiences aged 0 to 16 (please bring proof of age),
Our audiences aged 16 to 26 have a reduced rate of €13 for each paying concert (Tuesday 27/05, Friday 30/05 and Saturday 31/05 - bring proof of age),
PASS 3 concerts for Saturday 09/05, Tuesday 12/05 and Saturday 16/05: €52 - entitles the holder to a special rate for cinema screenings.
