On Wednesday 8 April 2026, the Place du 11 Novembre in Laval will be like a red carpet.
Students in their final year of the vocational Bac Métiers de la Couture et de la Confection at Lycée Réaumur-Buron will be showcasing their creations at the "Les Re-fashionistas du 7ᵉ Art" fashion show. An event open to all, where fashion meets cinema... and above all a commitment to more responsible fashion.
Behind this fashion show lies several months of work for the students accompanied by their teacher Frédérique Le Guernic. Their challenge was to come up with 20 outfits inspired by the world of cinema, while working exclusively - or almost exclusively - with second-hand textiles.
Curtains, tablecloths and household linen were collected at the Le Relais de Bretagne textile sorting centre in Acigné before being transformed into original garments. It's a painstaking process that illustrates the full potential of textile reuse.
The project, entitled "Seconde prise - cinéma et mode responsable", offers a different vision of fashion: more creative, more sustainable and more aware of its impact on the environment.
Two fashion shows to discover the creations
The public can discover these original silhouettes at two fashion shows organised in the heart of the city:
at 2pm
at 4pm
A total of 22 students from the Lycée Réaumur-Buron will be taking part in this presentation, which marks the culmination of their work.
Workshops to learn how to repair and reuse
The afternoon is not limited to the parade. A number of interactive activities will encourage passers-by to think about the way we consume clothes.
These include
- an introductory repair embroidery workshop, led by schoolchildren, to learn how to hide or embellish a stain or hole;
- an exhibition entitled "The other side of my look", to help you understand the environmental impact of fashion;
- Workshops on reuse and reducing textile waste (furoshiki, quiz, tips on decluttering your wardrobe);
- and a repair workshop with a seamstress, to bring damaged clothes back to life.
