Thursdays at the Eva Prouteau contemporary art centre
Conference
Thursday 13 November 2025 - 6.30pm
Pôle culturel Les Ursulines, reception room
From painting to photography, sculpture to video, this talk offers an abundance of faces and bodies, right up to the rise of the selfie and its artistic impact.
The self-portrait is a means of asserting oneself as an artist and an opportunity to question one's ability to render resemblance. Above all, it is a space of freedom, which explains why the genre was a fundamental issue in the twentieth century - the century of the invention of psychoanalysis and artistic questioning. Faced with history and the test of time, with the artist's questions about himself and his place in society, the self-portrait informs the way in which public and private life interact over the course of time, while at the same time raising questions about artistic practice as a whole.

duration: 1h30
