A visit to the Ursuline Convent, an architectural jewel in the town of Château-Gontier, will give you an insight into the life of the nuns and the pupils in their care.
From the cellar to the cells, the daily life of the Ursulines is revealed against the backdrop of the turbulent history of France from the 17th to the 20th century. A place of remembrance, the Couvent des Ursulines is also a living place, home to the Conservatoire de Musique et de Danse and the Scène Nationale Le Carré. This new cultural vocation is illustrated by the third wing of the cloister, inaugurated in 1999, which houses a magnificent 530-seat theatre, the highlight of the visit.
